My sole claim to fame is that I was once lucky enough to share my life with the unique and mercurial spirit I named Fern.
Chronological age is ink marks on paper, so I'll not bother you with that, but the society on which all ills are blamed, recently "forced" me to indulge in a kind of chemical warfare. That there is nine stone three pounds of me and its strung out on a five feet nine and a half inch frame seems altogether more relevant.
Born in Sheffield, most of my life has been spent in Lincoln, but does a Tyke ever deny their roots? I'm proud to be a Yorkshire lass.
My education was ordinary; O-levels, a couple of A's and I spent most of my career as a teacher in secondary schools.
If I had to select just one incident as the greatest influence on my life, then it would have to be a visit to the old Sheffield Empire theatre to see ballet when I was eight years old. I'm told I saw "Giselle". I know I hated "Petrouchka", but sandwiched between the two was a solo dance by Anton Dolin; his own interpretation of Ravel's "Bolero", and I found that utterly mind-blowing! Those few spell-binding minutes generated in me a life-long love of dance, music and theatre.
I enjoy gardening (especially the design bit) and D.I.Y (ditto) but I am not afraid of getting mucky.
Everything else seems to be in the book, which, unlike me, is interesting. I do hope you will buy it, for every penny of the price you pay will help animals, both wild and domesticated, somewhere in the world and if I have done my job properly, in return, you will share some of the wonderful experience that was once my sole privilege; the joy of Fern's company.
